Our route
Overview
A lovely site with well laid out pitches of all types including some glamping options. The site is well presented and clean. Considering we are staying over the Christmas period (typically wet), there was no mud in site or drainage issues. What we did see was most of the motorhomes and caravans decorated with lights and Christmas decorations! ho! ho! ho!
Pitch Description / condition
Our gravel pitch slightly sloping from back to front and had water and grey water drainage on the pitch. Electric was supplied from a shared pole close by. The pitch was enclosed by fencing with laurel hedging starting to grow and was very spacious. A picnic bench was also supplied.
Customer Service
Everyone we met was really friendly and helpful and had a real Christmas spirit going!
Facilities
There were 2 unisex facility blocks, 1 was within a short walk of our pitch. It was immaculately clean and each cubicle contained a toilet, shower and sink. At one end of the block there was an Elson point and at the other end there was 3 x toilet only units. The facilities were spacious and warm.
There is a nice shop at reception which sells a selection of essentials and some gift items, along with some nice local produce. A self service coffee machine is also a welcome addition. Monty’s Bar is an outside affair which was enclosed with awning walls as it was winter, in the summer these are removed. Even though outside, there are lots of wall mounted heaters which can be turned on / off as required and a lovely wood burner. There are a few discernible sections, but most of the seating area was gravel (I think I have seen a post that this has been upgrade to a wooden floor since we stayed). All areas were dog friendly. Outside of this area are some benches and you can bring you own chair when its busy. Food is served via visiting vans and all the fayre was well cooked and delicious and you can eat in the bar area etc. We were given one of those vibrating doohickies to tell us when it was ready to collect.
Dog Friendly
Back of beyond is very dog friendly, its great to be able to pop into the bar and also grab some food with Cassie & Lottie. The forest area was a wonderful experience and they loved exploring. The addition of a dog wash is awesome, especially after a busy day running in puddles!.
Nearby
The New Forest is quite the draw and is close by (Short Drive), but there are also a few country parks nearby like Avon Heath and the larger Moors Valley Country park. We visited Winchester which is about an hour away and Bournemouth which is just down the road. There are 2 pubs close by, both within walking distance but you just have to be careful of the main road, especially at night.
