Our Route
Cleanliness
The whole site, from the roads and green areas to the toilets, bar, restaurant, shower rooms and reception was immaculate. We did not visit the pool or the launderette, but based on everything else, we would have expected to find those clean also.
Pitch Description / condition
We opted for a fully serviced pitch (hardstanding) in the moat area. We did expect a view from the pitch as it looks like there is from their website, however, there was a bank in front which blocked the view – we expect this bank will provide much need protection during the windy damp months of winter! The pitch was large and our 7.3m motorhome fitted without problem. On the pitch there was electric (16amp), drinking water, grey waste drain and an Elson (chemical toilet) point which made things super easy. You can climb the embankment and you will be rewarded with spectacular views (see video)
Level?
Ramps required, With our supports fully extended on the front, we were still 1o out of perfect level.
Customer Service
The reception team were great when we arrived and we received a guide (on a golf cart) to our pitch which made things easy. The gentleman on the buggy explained the pitch and gave some directions to the facilities. We received a packet of leaflets which included opening times of the bar etc and pool information. We did not receive a map of the site, so as our travel-tired brains did not remember or take in the verbal information… we ended up walking around the site to get the lay of the land. Checkout is 10 am, however as we booked a table for the Sunday carvery they allowed us to opt for a late checkout so we did not need to move the motorhome (I guess this is subject to availability, it was quiet during our stay).
Facilities
The facilities were excellent, although we did not visit the pool or launderette. Our onsite neighbours had been twice to the pool which needs to be pre-booked and said it was lovely, but they did have it to themselves.
There are toilets (for our number 2’s) with the showers and in the bar, however these were quite far from our pitch (opposite side of the site to our pitch) so a good walk was required – this was the only negative to our visit but no way near a deal breaker.
We stayed for a carvery in the restaurant and it was very good! The bar and restaurant area was very nice and included a sun terrace with tables. There is a dance floor/stage area and the site regularly hosts musical acts. We would have liked to visit in the evening, but we already had plans involving watching the speedway gp!!
Dog Friendly
We were very pleased to see that the entire site was dog friendly. The restaurant and bar had no restrictions. Red poo bins were dotted around the site and were cleaned and emptied regularly.
- Dogs must remain on leads (Normal for most sites)
- No allowed in toilets / pool / launderette (Normal for most sites)
- No exercise area (but plenty of places within walking distance)
- Nearby beach (Tregonhawke) has no restrictions
Nearby
We only stayed for a weekend, so did not venture far on this visit. We went to Tregonhawke beach on saturday which is directly opposite the site, the walk down the cliff is tough. The path starts by going past a cafe and its a steep concrete path with occasional speed bumps (vehicles can use this to access the holiday cottages), it then turns into steps. These steps are uneven and was quite tough on our knees. A nice cafe at the bottom of the hill was a welcome reward and the beach also has RLNI coverage and an water activity centre.
